Running the Disney Princess Half Marathon

Well after lots of preparation, minor setback, physio and training, we finally ran the half marathon. And guess what? I got the flue the night before! Of course. Just goes to show you, no matter how much you prepare for something, life always kicks in. However, I still ran. It was questionable up until the starting line, but once I started going, the adrenaline kicked in and I did it! I finished in 3 hours and 38 minutes. For most, that is probably not something to boast about, but for me, it was my first half marathon, and well I finished, and under four hours!

So the course itself….was really cool! There was lots of entertainment in the form of djs, bands, choirs and character meet and greets along the way. The characters ranged from pirates, to princes, to princess Sophia. As well, we got to run through Magic Kingdom, through Cinderella’s Castle and be greeted by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff as we ran through, that was pretty neat. The volunteers along the way were awesome with their signs and support.

The amount of people was INSANE. Like, endless droves of people. It was easy to keep the energy up because there was always about 100 people running with me at any given time. Also, the costumes, WOW some people were incredibly intense with those. It was a lot of fun getting to see everyone’s costumes.

The one con that I have to this, or suggestion, is how they managed the starting. With this many people, they used correls from A-P to organize everyone based on their anticipated finish time. The only downside to this was that it took almost an hour from the original start time for our corral (M) to actually start! By that time, waiting in the cold at 5:30am, I definately felt my drive going down. Luckily as we were at the start line, they started to play Don’t Stop Believin, which is pretty much my anthem, so that definately lifted up everyones spirit and then we were off!

The best part was crossing that finish line, getting my medal and taking an awesome finish photo with my best friend in our adorable costumes.
