The Balkan Tour Part 1: Budapest

Budapest was just simply pretty. I did not expect it to be so darn pretty! I also did not expect it snag a place in my heart as quick as it did. But what else can you do but dream of visiting again?

Between the architecture, superb food, thermal baths and pretty lights at night …I could have happily stayed here for more than two days. What an amazing start to the tour.

In the two days we had in Budapest, we went on a lovely driving tour, saw some amazing views from Gellert hill, visited the stunning Fisherman Bastion (check out those lights!), enjoyed cabbage rolls and goulash, partied at a ruin bar, spent a better part of the day walking most of Pest to see Heroe’s Square, St. Stephen’s Basilica and The Opera House, stumbled into a Hungarian Dog Festival, discovered Rapunzel’s Tower (and enjoyed conciding park) and finally relaxed in the thermal baths! Oh and ended the night by being catapulted onto Liberty Bridge by random (but friendly) Hungarian men.

We stayed at Hotel Gellert which was so neat for me. It was very traditional with keys for the room, stunning architecture and beautiful interior. The best part was free entrance to the Gellert Baths. A perfect and relaxing way to end a day of walking.

The only bad part of Budapest was having to leave! So much left to see and do, so guess what? I will be back 😉

  1. Hi Veronica, I am glad that you liked Budapest, thanks for sharing your experiences!
Just please, don’t call Hungary “Balkan” – it doesn’t belong there and Hungarians will not love you for that…
