Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo: This was a book recommended by a friend. A fantasy adventure novel following the story of a newly discovered powerful sorceress, trying to figure out how to save her country while on the run from her colleagues, with the help of her childhood best friend of course. I enjoyed how detailed the world was and the darker edge to the book. There is also a little twist involved in the story that made it quite interesting. A quick fun read!
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray: This book, and the series as a whole was very much my “coming of age” story. Its been a classic to me since I first read it. A story about a group of strong and independent young girls finding and fighting their way through boarding school during Victorian England, where in they also discover access to unique abilities. The story inspired and encouraged me to grow up into a strong woman who embraces what makes her special.
Illustrated Versions of Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling: Christmas presents! If you are a Harry Potter fan, than you have to get the illustrated version. The images are beautiful and simply strike the imagination. It was a whole new adventure reading the books! I can’t wait to see if they release anymore like it.
Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne: I enjoyed 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea so much that I thought I would try another novel by Jules Verne. It was just as good. Following the adventure of a crazed professor and his nephew to the centre of the earth! I especially enjoyed the book because it takes place in Iceland. Which, I had never actually knew. It was fun getting to read about the landscape that I fell in love during my visit to Iceland last year. I look forward to reading more of his novels.
